My 2023 in books
I was able to complete my reading challenge this year, by almost a month. So I'm taking this time out not to read anything and just enjoy the books sitting on my shelf. Here's my 2023 reading challenge in pictures:
Review of Normal People by Sally Rooney
Source: Pinterest
I'm not saying that Sally Rooney is the real deal but Normal People definitely is. It has been a longlisted book for the Man Booker Prize and adapted into a series by the BBC.
Connell and Marianne who went to the same school somehow get entangled in college. It is a story of young people, revolving around love (btw this is not a love story), the changing dynamics of first love and how life gets hard as one grows up.
Sally Rooney's writing is brilliant. This is my first book from the author and it hits all the right notes. I'm not a fan of the genre but there's something so pure, so raw about this book. I don't think it is written to prove any point or to beat any records. This book just exists and lets you exist. The interconnected and troubled lives of these characters is a perfect reflection of what present day youth go through: the transition to being an adult from this popular, carefree child.
The best part to me is the ending. This book has been in the heat for forever and I can see why after finishing it. So,if you like reading close observations on life and people, do give it a read.
My rating is 4.5/5⭐
